5 Ways to Improve the Winter Olympics
With the Winter Olympics in full swing, there’s millions of Americans who watch Olympic Games to show their support for their country. However, besides men’s hockey, most of these sporting events are not main stream. The Olympics have been doing a great job of incorporating some extreme sports into the Winter Olympics this year, but they are way behind in comparison to the X Games. As a result, the Winter Olympics viewing numbers are slightly down, even though most of he events are televised worldwide. At Muffslap.com, we decided to make 5 simple changes to greatly enhance the Winter Olympics appeal to the average American male.
1. Biathlon – Use Moving Targets
Combining two great events into one would make this a new exciting event. Competitors will cross country ski between locations and then fire rifles at targets, making this a truly distinct event. The easy adjustment is to allow the competitors to truly test their biathlon skills by shooting moving targets while skiing. This will greatly test the participant’s accuracy and surely add a new degree of difficulty increasing the appeal to the male audience.
2. Figure Skating Competitions – All Female Costumes Are Bikinis
The figure skating competitions are some of the largest viewed events in the Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, the average guy has little desire to see a woman or man in costumes twirling on ice skates. The solution is to have the women wear bikinis during the skating competitions, as opposed to the ridiculous costumes they’re wearing now. This will surely get a rise out of the male audience that’s been forced to watch these events by their “significant others.”
3. Speed Skating – Contact Is Acceptable and Encouraged
The speed skating events are some of the fastest events in the Winter Olympics. These skaters fly through the ice with speed and precision in an attempt to be the first across the finish line. These events are fast pace and intriguing, but adding full contact to these events will bring a whole new element of excitement to the event. The event would turn in to the good old fashion roller derby, where the last person standing maybe be the first person to cross the finish line.
4. Skiing Events – Decathlon
The skiing events take a great variety of skill, athleticism, grace, and creativity. However, many of these skiers only compete in a couple of events which focus on their specialty. The simple solution is to create a decathlon of five events, encompassing all elements of the skiing world. This will exhibit which country has the most well rounded skiers in the world. There will be plenty of mistakes, which will only add to the viewing audience’s appeal.
5. Luge/Skeleton-Turn Into a Relay Race
The skeleton and luge are two of the most exciting and daring events in the Winter Olympic Games. To add another element of excitement, we recommend combining these games into a relay race. There will be a hand off of the battalion at different locations down the course. The hand off, along with the intense speed of this sport will certainly add an additional degree of difficulty to the event. This will instantly spice up the intensity of this event and encourage more viewers.
